Higher Certificate and Diploma in Early Childhood Development
These part-time courses comprise theory, workshop and practical sessions, as well as teaching practice in a Montessori school. Please see MCSA website for details. Four main reference texts are included in the course fees and additional text books and related material are available through the school.
Lectures and supervised practice sessions are held weekly during school terms. The course takes 20 – 24 months to complete. Workshops are held on one Saturday morning per month. Written and practical examinations are taken towards the end of the second year. A major part of every subject area involves the preparation of a comprehensive reference manual and related assignments.
Students complete about 8/9 weeks of supervised teaching practice in a Montessori classroom, with visits and guidance from a teaching practice tutor. Related assignments must also be completed within the specified time. The training centre assists the student in their placement in a school for teaching practice.
A SAQA-registered level 5, Higher Certificate or Diploma, accredited by the ETDP SETA, is awarded after a student's successful completion of all course work, examinations and the Teaching Practice module.
All other courses run at Auburn House Training Centre are certificated.
The program for 2013 will be available by July 2012
